We could not find rut, breeding or conception dates from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, or a Kansas breeding study, so the windows below are our estimate. The sections after them carry the 2026 seasons, harvest, public land and rules from KDWP's regulations and reports.

2026 season: archery opens mid September. Source: Kansas season dates (KDWP). Seasons and zones change, so confirm with the agency before you hunt.
The windows above are our estimate. We have not found a breeding-date study from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks or a Kansas university to check them against. The only agency note on timing we found is general: Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge, in north-central Kansas, lists the deer rut as in full swing in the fall.
The state's deer regulation names one season for the rut. The pre-rut season is a three-day antlerless whitetail firearm hunt that opens the Saturday before Columbus Day, October 10 to 12 in 2026, weeks ahead of any window on this page.

Kansas writes its deer seasons into regulation as calendar rules, like the Wednesday after Thanksgiving. Under the rules adopted in 2025, the 2026 to 2027 dates are:
Every rut window on this page, November 5 to 22, falls inside archery season, and archery, crossbows included, is the only statewide season open in November. The regular firearm season opens December 2, ten days after the latest window closes.
Kansas tracks its deer through an annual harvest survey and a landowner opinion survey. In 2025 the department told legislators its biologists' data showed deer numbers rising in the southeast and central parts of the state and falling in the northwest.
Permits followed the deer. Under the 2025 rule change, the southeast, reaching north to Leavenworth and west to Pratt, gained five more antlerless tags, while the northwest corner went from four antlerless tags to one.

Public ground is scarce in Kansas, and the department says so. Its Public Lands division manages about 460,000 acres of land and water on 177 properties, including 75 wildlife areas and 45 state fishing lakes, plus 31 leased federal properties, 22 of them federal reservoirs.
The Walk-In Hunting Access program adds private ground. Started in 1995, it leases land from willing owners and opens about 1.1 million acres to public hunting. Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge, 18,500 acres at the upper end of John Redmond Reservoir, allows deer hunting in the state seasons but no rifles during the firearm season.

Archery. It runs September 14 to December 31 in 2026, and it is the only statewide season open in November. The regular firearm season opens December 2.
No Kansas source we could find says so. The few days of stagger between the windows on this page, west to east, are our estimate.
