Arkansas runs its rut earlier in the west than in the east. Working from late-winter biological data, the AGFC found most western counties peak between October 28 and November 21, while the east peaks November 22 to December 14, with the counties along the Mississippi River the latest in the state.

AGFC biologists use late-winter biological data from deer to work out when most does in an area are bred. In 2018 the AGFC reported an earlier rut in the west, where most counties have peak conception dates between October 28 and November 21, and a later one in the east, November 22 to December 14, with the Mississippi River counties the latest.
The windows above follow those ranges. Each spans many counties' peaks, not one peak day, and the AGFC gives no separate dates for the river counties, so plan on the late end there.

The 2026 to 2027 dates, with gun seasons varying by zone:
Archery covers both rut windows. The youth hunt and the November 14 gun opener fall inside the western window, and most of the eastern window falls in modern gun season, open to at least December 6 in every zone but 4 and 5.

On the AGFC's preliminary count, hunters checked just under 200,000 deer in the 2024 to 2025 season, up nearly 4 percent from the season before and the third rise in a row. In the 2025 early buck-only archery hunt, they checked just over 1,400 bucks.

Arkansas hunters have more than 3 million acres of public land, including more than 100 AGFC wildlife management areas, each its own zone with its own rules.
More than a quarter million acres of it is timber company land in the AGFC's Leased Land Program, hunted with a $75 permit that hunters 15 and younger do not need. On WMAs, stands must be moved at least 200 yards after 14 straight days.

The calendar says when the rut runs in Arkansas. Whether your next sit is worth your best spot comes down to the ground you hunt and what you've seen on it, and that is the call RackIQ makes: The Scored Call™, checked afterward. The more hunts you log, the sharper it gets.
