Georgia's rut runs from mid-October on the coast to late December in the far southwest. Georgia DNR's rut map, built with University of Georgia researchers from deer-vehicle collision data that lined up with conception dates and deer movement, dates the week of peak movement in every county, and more than half of them peak November 3 to 16. The windows below follow that map.
Oct 13 to 26
Peak: mid to late October
Camden, Glynn and McIntosh peak October 13 to 19, the earliest in the state. Inland counties such as Wayne, Appling and Toombs run later, November 3 to 9.
Nov 3 to 16
Peak: early to mid-November
More than half of Georgia's counties peak in these two weeks. Putnam, Jasper, Baldwin, Wilkinson and Washington run a week earlier.
Nov 17 to 30
Peak: late November
Rabun, Habersham, White, Lumpkin, Stephens and Banks peak November 24 to 30. Gilmer and Pickens run earlier, November 10 to 16.
Nov 17 to Dec 28
Peak: late November, into late December in the far corner
Seminole peaks latest, December 22 to 28. The DNR marks counties with fewer than 100 collisions as low accuracy.
These windows follow Georgia DNR’s rut map, which dates the week of peak deer movement in each county; the DNR marks counties with fewer than 100 collisions as low accuracy. Confirm legal season dates, bag limits, and county rules directly with Georgia DNR WRD before hunting.

Georgia DNR's rut map comes from University of Georgia and DNR research, which found that the weeks of peak deer-vehicle collisions lined up with deer conception dates and with how much deer moved by the hour. The map uses Georgia DOT collision data to date the week of peak deer movement in each county, and the DNR warns that counties with fewer than 100 collisions in the sample have low-accuracy dates. The cards above follow the map.
The coast and southeast peak first, Camden, Glynn and McIntosh from October 13 to 19, and more than half the counties peak November 3 to 16. The northeast mountains run into late November and the southwest corner into late December, with Seminole latest at December 22 to 28, and preliminary DNR fetal samples from that corner put county averages as late as January 2. Neighboring counties can sit two weeks apart, Thomas and Grady for one, so check your own county.

Archery gear is legal through every one of Georgia's 2026 to 2027 seasons, which run like this in most of the state:
The coast and southeast peak straddles the October 17 switch from primitive weapons to firearms, and every other window falls inside firearms season. Where its breeding study found late rutting, the DNR lengthened the season, and in Baker, Calhoun, Decatur, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole and Thomas counties firearms runs to January 15, past the latest peaks on the map.

The DNR's latest posted season summary, for 2023 to 2024, puts the statewide harvest at about 298,000 deer. The 2022 to 2023 summary, the latest with a buck count, tallied about 271,000 deer, about 122,000 of them bucks, and firearms hunters took just over 100,000 of those bucks.
The DNR says about 87,000 bowhunters took about 42,000 deer in the 2025 to 2026 season.

Georgia's more than 100 wildlife management areas open nearly a million acres to public hunting. Each WMA sets its own rules and dates, and deer hunters must sign in unless the listing says otherwise.
The Voluntary Public Access program, funded by a USDA grant since 2014, opens private land to public hunting through temporary agreements with landowners. On the Chattahoochee and Oconee national forests, deer hunting is buck only unless a listing says otherwise, and the Chattahoochee east of I-75 is closed to antlerless deer.

A Georgia rut calendar gives you the regional breeding window. RackIQ adds the conditions that decide the actual hunt: your terrain, wind, access, hunting pressure, weather, rut phase, cameras, and property history.

It depends on the county. Georgia DNR's rut map puts the coast at mid to late October, more than half of the counties at November 3 to 16, the northeast mountains at late November, and the far southwest corner into late December.
The DNR's map shows it county by county rather than as a clean north to south slide: the coast peaks first, the mountains late and the far southwest last, and neighboring counties such as Thomas and Grady sit two weeks apart.
Start with your county on the DNR's rut map. Archery gear is legal through every season, and firearms season runs October 17 to January 10 in most of the state and to January 15 in nine southwest counties, so every peak on the map falls in a season you can hunt.
