Florida's rut runs from summer to late winter depending on where you hunt. FWC biologists have collected breeding data since 2009 and found breeding in every month but May, and their rut map, updated in June 2018, shades the state by mean conception date: late July and August in south Florida, September to November across most of the north and central peninsula, December to early March in and around Zone B, and January to early March in the panhandle.
Jul 22 to Aug 31
Peak: late July through August
FWC's earliest band covers most of Zone A. Along the zone's northern edge, around Lake Okeechobee, the map runs into September.
Sep 1 to Nov 30
Peak: October in much of the zone
September along the northeast coast, October across most of the north-central counties, and November in the Big Bend and around Zone B.
Dec 1 to Mar 3
Peak: January, and February into early March at the core
FWC's map puts the heart of Zone B in the state's latest band, February 1 to March 3, ringed by January and then December.
Jan 1 to Mar 3
Peak: February out west, January toward Tallahassee
FWC's map puts the western panhandle in its latest band, February 1 to March 3, and most of the panhandle east toward Tallahassee in January.
Regional estimates, and your area can vary. Where these dates come from is below.
2026 season: archery opens in some zones early August, and later in others. Source: Florida season dates (FWC). Seasons and zones change, so confirm with the agency before you hunt.
FWC biologists have collected data from Florida deer since 2009 to estimate breeding dates, and have found breeding in every month but May. Their rut map, updated in June 2018, shades the state by mean conception date: July 22 to August 31 across most of south Florida, September to November across most of the north and central peninsula, and December to March 3 in and around Zone B. The panhandle is January toward Tallahassee and February 1 to March 3 out west.
The cards above follow that map. FWC says these data helped set season dates and zone lines. Each card gives the map's range of mean conception dates, not one peak day.

Seasons run by zone, and wildlife management areas set their own. The 2026 to 2027 dates for antlered deer elsewhere:
Zone A's archery season covers most of its July to August band, and Zone C's archery and crossbow take most of October. Zone B's gun season spans December and January but closes February 21, before its latest breeding ends. Panhandle gun season covers January and most of February, and the late muzzleloader hunt falls in the latest band.

FWC's survey of licensed hunters estimated about 132,000 deer hunters took about 92,500 deer in the 2023 to 2024 season, about 63,000 of them in general gun season. Its estimates by management unit add up to about 58,000 bucks and just under 30,000 does.

Florida's wildlife management area system covers over 6 million acres, and FWC is lead manager or landowner on about 1.5 million of them. A WMA hunt takes a management area permit on top of your license.
Some WMAs are walk-on and others run quota hunts. Big Cypress, about 728,000 acres in south Florida, needs a quota permit in some units, while Apalachicola, nearly 600,000 acres in the panhandle, needs none.

A date on a calendar can't tell you which spot to sit. RackIQ weighs the rut phase for your part of Florida against the wind, your way in, the pressure already on the ground and what you've seen there, then says hunt it or save it. The Scored Call™ is checked afterward, and every hunt you log makes the next call sharper.

Late summer. FWC's map puts mean conception for most of Zone A at July 22 to August 31, the earliest band in the state, running into September along the zone's northern edge.
In January toward Tallahassee and February 1 to March 3 in the western panhandle, on FWC's map. The core of Zone B in inland central Florida shares that latest band.
FWC says Florida's deer breeding varies more than in any other state, with breeding found in every month but May, and its breeding data helped set the season dates and zone lines.
