Missouri's rut peaks in mid-November, and it hardly moves from year to year. The Missouri Department of Conservation's breeding chart puts the busiest week at November 10 to 16, with November 3 to 9 next, and about three in four does bred by November 17. MDC publishes no regional dates, so one window covers the state.

The Missouri Department of Conservation charted breeding by week in a 2014 deer management handout. The busiest week ran November 10 to 16, with about a third of all breeding, and November 3 to 9 was next with about a quarter. Breeding was 42 percent done before November 10 and about 75 percent done before November 17.
MDC's hunting guide says most adult does are bred in the second and third weeks of November, and MDC puts the peak in mid-November, very consistent from year to year. MDC gives no regional dates, so the window above covers the whole state with the chart's two busiest weeks, November 3 to 16.

Archery season covers the run-up to the peak, which MDC's guide calls probably the best bowhunting of the season. The November portion opens November 14, inside the busiest breeding week, and runs past November 17, when about 75 percent of breeding is done. Bows and crossbows are legal in it too, with hunter orange.

Missouri hunters took just over 300,000 deer in the 2025 to 2026 season, about 145,000 of them antlered bucks, slightly above the five-year average. The November portion alone produced about 158,000 deer, just over half the total, including about 90,000 antlered bucks, and the archery season about 62,000.

MDC offers more than 1,000 public hunting access sites, about a million acres in all, with the most acreage in the Ozark Region. Hunters took about 38,000 deer on public land in 2024, roughly 12 percent of the harvest, and Shannon, Carter and Ripley counties led the state.
The Mark Twain National Forest adds about a million and a half acres with no Forest Service fee, under MDC's seasons and limits. MRAP opens private land to walk-in public hunting, but your stand comes down when you leave each day.
